Insurer: Don't be too free with personal details
Around 15 million UK workers are at risk from falling victim to ID theft in their office, research from Sheilas Wheels has shown.
The insurer said that many employees were being "careless" with their personal details and information in the workplace.
According to a Sheilas Wheels poll, 83 per cent of office workers trust their colleagues "completely" - and 22 per cent say that the people they work with know "as much" about them as their close friends.
However, with ID theft costing the economy £1.7 billion each year, workers have been advised by the firm to take steps to keep their private details, private.
In turn, keeping potentially sensitive matters such as paying bills and enquiring about bank accounts away from prying eyes at work could lead to consumers not having to pay off credit cards thanks to fraud.
Jacky Brown at Sheilas Wheels said: "Longer working hours, the rise in the dual income family and increasingly hectic lives are causing many Brits to manage their personal and household finances in the office rather than at home.
"But with such a lack of privacy in open plan workplaces, it's crucial to protect your personal information at all times - not just from strangers but also people you may have known for some time."
