Drivers hit by insurance 'hidden fees'
Many drivers are being caught out - and, potentially, finding it harder to pay off debt - thanks to "hidden fees" from insurers.
The "administrative" charges, for such simple tasks as change of address, can lead to disproportionate fees being added to premiums each time, the Daily Mail reports.
Among the firms that levied the most for the so-called "mid-term changes" were Budget Insurance and More Than, charging £25 and £15 each respectively.
Commenting on the fees, Debra Williams at price comparison website Confused.com said: "We recommend that everyone checks the terms and conditions carefully to ensure that they are aware of the costs of making any amendments."
Customer James Gray, who had to pay £42 extra for three address changes to insurer elephant.co.uk, added: "Given that most changes can be done at the push of a button, it seems unfair that the fee is so high."
